Wait... you're not going that way.
Getting (and staying) back on track with our self care routine.
That’s right, with the seasons changing upon us it may be time for a course correction. For a lot of us, summer is a heap of fast paced long days filled with fun, and then you hit the pillow hard at the end of the night. With that can come a lot of late night eating, indulgences, and extra splurges on whatever those ingredients that bring you joy are (yes joy is an ingredient too, but when used as an ingredient it can also be overdone).
I had an epiphany this morning as I was looking back at the last couple of years. I realized that I always land in the same place around this time of year– and that is not feeling my best mentally and physically. We have company 3-4 times a week that we absolutely love and adore. The kids go to bed late and wake up early. Yes, this is all a personal problem, but I thought I would share because I think a lot of people find themselves running a bit thin and in the same place.
When we get to this point, it’s easy to start nitpicking at everything that’s wrong instead of seeing the beauty in it all. We lean into gratitude less and into the areas that may not be serving us more. Now, you might say Kelsey, what is with the debbie downer attitude today? Let me explain.
As of late, my routine has been non-existent. At first I was like, “It’s fine, I feel great.” However, I know how incredibly important and helpful having a routine is to make me stay sane. That’s when I realized I need a course correction– a clean up on my side of the sidewalk again.
So, back to the things that I know make me feel my best. Yes, a lot of what I do to improve within myself takes time, but it’s well worth the reframe. These are practices I have always done and they always bring me back to a more well rounded, grounded version of myself. Sometimes it's not perfect, and if I don’t do it in the morning, I take the extra time even if I’m tired to do it at night!
Morning Routine:
Mindfulness before you even get out of bed
10 AWARE deep breaths, inhale 1, exhale 2
Stretches in bed (most of the time we just hit the ground running not even taking a breath to set an intention)
4 easy stretches to do in bed:
Knees into chest - count to 10
Moon - stretch arms over head, catch left wrist with right hand, wiggle feet and hands to right to open left side body
Twist - knees into chest, fall to the right, arms out in t shape, head falls to left
Legs up (love this one at night too). Scoot your bum to the head board or wall and put legs up for a couple minutes.
Skincare: I love to gua sha or facial cup. You can find one at The Living Well.
Water with molecular hydrogen– First, what is this magic molecule? Molecular hydrogen is the smallest and most abundant molecule in the universe, consisting of two hydrogen atoms. Molecular Hydrogen works as an antioxidant, targeting only the most harmful free radicals while leaving the body’s natural processes intact. It’s an easy way to support energy, cellular health, and overall wellness. It neutralizes harmful free radicals, boosts energy, cellular vitality, supports focus + brain health, aids exercise recovery, promotes radiant skin + healthy aging (my favorite benefit).
Matcha (find it at Southern Squeeze). I set my baby next to me and she loves to help me make it in the mornings!
Vibe plate: This is the best to get your lymph moving and can even keep your bowels regular.
Bare feet in the grass and stare at the sun. A good portion of our day we have shoes on when we’re outside. Our bare feet rarely touch mother nature. This will help reset your circadian rhythm and leave you grounded and feeling more connected.
For years I’ve intermittently fasted. These days sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. As I get back on track, I love to start my day with water of course and then a green juice. I mean… this is the whole reason I started Southern Squeeze in the first place! To provide simple and gentle cleansing modalities that could be built upon. In the past, I fasted/ cleansed 1 day a week. When I did, and do this, I feel fantastic. It gives my digestive system a rest and I’m able to look further inward.
This is the best time of year to do a cleanse in my opinion because it’s not too cold out (cleansing cools the body). The Holiday season hasn’t snuck up on us yet either. We can actually take the time to feel into our bodies, and lean in to see what else we are holding on to in order to clear space for the months to come.
My favorite cleanse is straight juice. I prefer the Renew from Southern Squeeze. If I am wanting a bit more substance to stay grounded I go for the Unlock. Of course you could do this at home as well. If you want some guidance with doing this at home, email me kelsey@southernsqueeze.com and I am happy to help!
This might be a little taboo for some but I swear by it. Call me a weirdo or whatever you like, but these modalities have helped me tremendously over the years to clear toxins and feel better:
Oxy Powder The Living Well
Your colon is like a vacuum. When we get *ahemmmm*, the shit out of our body, it can start to heal and repair. Removing the waste will start to prime us for the time of year that a lot of folks get sick. In my opinion, that happens more frequently based on our toxic load that we carry.
A juice recipe for you to try at home:
LIMESHINE. It’s a Southern Squeeze fan favorite!
Apple 2-3 organic granny smith apples (less sugar)
Celery 6-8 stalks
Romaine ½ head
Cilantro ¼ bunch
Lime ½- 1
With the new season slowly creeping up on us, now is the perfect time to try out some new healthy living habits. Take one or two tips from my list and give them a shot. Really try your best to stick to them too! You will find yourself feeling so much more in tune with your body and more energized in your daily life. Small changes add up, and this season could be the start of a healthier, happier rhythm for you.
xoxo, Kelsey
